Earlier projections in 2024–2025 estimated approximately $594 million in total economic impact across Los Angeles County. The new estimate is $892 million – an increase of roughly 50%.
When combined with projected long-term tourism gains from global media exposure, estimated at over $230 million, total short- and long-term benefits to Los Angeles County could exceed $1.1 billion. This reflects substantially higher short-term visitor spending while maintaining the same long-term tourism impacts associated with global media exposure.
The revised model projects significantly greater immediate economic activity, including:
- $892 million in total economic impact across Los Angeles County
- $515 million in direct visitor spending on lodging, dining, retail, transportation, and entertainment
- $377 million in follow-on economic activity as businesses increase purchasing and employment
- $338 million in increased wages across hospitality, retail, entertainment, transportation, and related industries
- $50 million in new tax revenue for Los Angeles County
- $36 million in new tax revenue for the State of California
As part of our update to the 2024 economic impact study, we refined several assumptions related to projected visitor behavior based on new information from recent World Cup analyses and comparable mega-event tourism patterns. These updated behavioral inputs are a primary driver of the higher economic impact estimates now projected for Los Angeles County.
